Pleuromulin

  • Chemical Properties
CAS No. 125-65-5 Cat. No. BCP12130
Name Pleuromulin
Synonyms
Formula C22H34O5 M. Wt 378.5
  • Biological Activity
Description The antibiotic was isolated in 1951 from the genus Pleurotus. It has been demonstrated through crystallization and biochemical research that Pleuromutilins acts by blocking substrate binding to the donor site and acceptor site of the ribosome's peptidyl-transferase center, which results in inhibition of the peptide bond formation. The compound encounters minimum cross-resistance with other compounds, which is attributed to its mode of action. Pleuromutilins targets a wide spectrum of pathogens and has been used in skin and respiratory tract infection studies.
