Spectinomycin dihydrochloride pentahydrate

  • Chemical Properties
CAS No. 22189-32-8 Cat. No. BCP12123
Name Spectinomycin dihydrochloride pentahydrate
Synonyms Togamycin dihydrochloride pentahydrate;
Formula C14H24N2O7.2(HCl).5(H2O) M. Wt 495.35
  • Biological Activity
Description Gram-positive and gram-negative Gonococcus spp. are reported to exhibit susceptibility to spectinomycin. Studies indicate that spectinomycin interferes with peptidyl tRNA translocation, thereby affecting protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria. Additional reports note that mutations in ribosomal proteins may prevent the binding of spectinomycin, thus potentially confering resistence to the compound.
