Description Erythromycin is an inhibitor of protein translation and mammalian mRNA splicing. It inhibits growth of gram negative and gram positiove bacteria.Erythromycin, an oral macrolide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces erythreus, reversibly binds to the 50S ribosome of bacteria, and inhibits protein synthesis.
