Description Lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate is the hydrochloride monohydrate form of lidocaine, which is an aminoethylamide and a prototypical member of the amide class anesthetics. It is a local anesthetic and cardiac depressant used as an antiarrhythmia agent. It has properties as a class IB antiarrhythmic, a long-acting membrane stabilizing agent used against ventricular arrhythmia. It interacts with voltage-gated Na+ channels in the nerve cell membrane and blocks the transient increase in permeability of excitable membranes to Na+. It works by blocking sodium channels and thus decreasing the rate of contractions of the heart. It can cause low blood pressure and an irregular heart rate.
